Lexington Medical Center’s Sleep Solutions has received national accreditation from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM).

“We are pleased that Lexington Medical Center physicians and patients have the opportunity to use the services of our new nationally accredited sleep center,” said Michelle Brooks, Registered Polysomnograhic Technologist and Sleep Solutions coordinator. “Our accreditation acknowledges that we deliver the highest standards of care and service, for which we are very proud.”

Michelle Brooks is featured in an article about how to sleep well in The State newspaper.

Sleep Solutions provides comprehensive care for a full range of sleep disorders. Phyisicans and technical staff evaluate, treat and provide follow-up care for such sleep-related disorders as hypersomnia, insomnia, narcolepsy, periodic limb movement disorder, restless leg syndrome, sleep apnea and snoring.

To receive a five-year accreditation from the AASM, a sleep center must meet or exceed all standards for professional health care as designated by the AASM. The accreditation process involves detailed inspection of a center’s facility and staff, including an evaluation of testing procedures, patient contacts and physician training. Additionally, the facility’s goals must be clearly stated and include plans for positively affecting the quality of medical care in the community it serves.

Lexington Medical Center’s Sleep Solutions is located at 109 West Hospital Drive, West Columbia. For more information, visit www.lexmed.com.

Lexington Medical Center has won the prestigious title of “Best Hospital” by readers of The State newspaper for nine years in a row. In response, Lexington Medical Center has launched an innovative new series of billboards and advertisements featuring hospital employees. In fact, if you live in the Midlands of South Carolina, you’ve probably seen the billboards while driving.

The campaign is so popular, it’s featured in an article in Health Leaders, a leading national health publication, this week.jason_for-web1

“You can own all the latest technology or build the finest facilities, but it’s the employees who determine whether you’re a good hospital or a great hospital,” said Mark Shelley, Lexington Medical Center’s director of marketing. “As a way of honoring our staff and their services, we’re showcasing them in billboards and print advertising throughout our service area.”

joel_for-web11The campaign features seven advertisements each showcasing a particular employee. The employees are a nurse recruiter, radiology supervisor, nutrition services worker, newborn baby nurse, an engineer, operating room use and a member of volunteer services. Each employee was nominated by a supervisor for outstanding work in his or her department.

The copy on his print ad reads, “For nine consecutive years, readers of The State newspaper have voted us the area’s best hospital. But a hospital is only bricks and mortar; it’s the people working here who have earned us that honor, dedicated people such as Joel Watts, our RN Recruiter. Thanks Joel, and thanks to more than 5,000 of our Lexington Medical Center employees, each committed to serving the people in our community with the highest degree of excellence.”

Having excellent employees is something Lexington Medical Center takes seriously and it shows. For example, according to Press Ganey hospital surveys from 2008, 4 out of 5 patients gave Lexington Medical Center nurses the highest rating possible for friendliness and courtesy.

Lexington Medical Center is one of my firm’s clients, so I’m visiting them regularly and get to experience all of the things they are doing right. It is an amazing organization.

img_4513On Friday (Halloween), one of my colleagues and I visited LMC for a day of strategic marketing. Purely by coincidence, Friday also happened to be the day of LMC’s Fall Picnic and Lexy Awards. This is an annual employee appreciation event and patient satisfaction awards ceremony. What a great day. Lunch was served to 5,000 employees under a huge tent while several employees were singled out for their excellence in delivering an incredible patient experience.

In an industry where employee satisfaction is so closely linked to patient satisfaction, Lexington Medical Center has fostered a corporate culture that is both caring and patient-focused. They are maniacal about patient satisfaction without letting it feel oppressive.

While sitting under the big tent on Friday with 5,000 LMC employees, it was obvious that their commitment to creating an extraordinary patient experience is genuine and heart-felt. As validation of their patient-focused culture, Lexington Medical Center was recently awarded the National Research Corporation’s Consumer Choice Award for the seventh consecutive year! Consumers in the Columbia Area were surveyed for this study and asked about four key metrics: best overall quality, best image and reputation, best doctors and best nurses. LMC was also selected by the readers of The State Newspaper as the region’s best hospital – for the 9th consecutive year!

It’s obvious from these accolades and patient satisfaction numbers that all of the hard work is paying off. This isn’t a casual commitment; these employees at LMC live the brand everyday and are true ambassadors for the organization. The people of the Midlands Region of South Carolina are fortunate to have a national leader in patient care right there in their backyard! Of course, it is the people of the Midlands who staff the Medical Center and care for their neighbors.
